In writing workshops organized at the Furtado Heine residential care home, elderly people trained a language model with their words, to co-write with it. All conversations were recorded, but only the spoken parts were kept. Sonic \u201cfills\u201d\u2014breathing, bodily noises, silences\u2014were not useful for the dataset. The sound artwork Silentia<\/em> recovers these neglected fragments to train a neural network that generates sound textures illuminating another form of presence: nonverbal, corporeal, ordinary. Unlike algorithms that usually favor language and efficiency, this approach transforms technological rejects into a sensible archive, drawing attention to sonics that are usually excluded from generative AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The writing workshops were led by Judith Deschamps with Danielle Pennec, Clart\u00e9 de Lune, Marie Anselmi, Alexis Balmain, Patricia Chebardy, Esp\u00e9rance, and Anne-Marie P., as part of her doctoral research-creation L\u2019IA en fin de vie<\/em>. This first version of Silentia was realised by Judith Deschamps and Hugo Scurto, with the support of an artistic grant from EUR ArTeC<\/a> (Universit\u00e9 Paris 8<\/a>).<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
